Refreshing escape from politics and pandemics!
When I moved to Nashville from Reno Nv. I passed through Texas hoping to see a real armadillo. I was disappointed, until I got to Nashville where I kept seeing them along the side of the road.
I always associated armadillos with Texas so the question that weighed on my mind was Why Are Armadillos In Nashville?
It became the first song I wrote in Nashville.
The music had to say Texas, so I spent hours studying Western Swing and listening to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
I also researched armadillos and learned enough about them to inform my second verse. It seems due to poor eyesight they stand on their hind haunches and sniff the air to get a sense of their surroundings. If they are startled they jump straight up 3 feet! That could explain why we see them at the side of the road. My verse isn't quite that dark, but the informed could get a good laugh out of it.
So why did they move to Nashville? Isn't it obvious? Why does anyone move to Music City?
