From the recording Epiphany- Limited Release
What do you believe? What is that belief based on? It’s not always the pretty words, good feelings and initial experiences that lead us to truth. In fact, those things often direct us away from it. There was a time when I relied on things that were not true, sometimes I still do, sometimes “I Needed Your Lies”.
Lyrics
I NEEDED YOUR LIES
©Doug Robertson CD Baby Publishing
You promised me pleasures and peace that abounds.
You offer me treasures that rarely are found.
You promised me women, you promised me love
You’d give me nirvana, If I just opened up.
OOOOH I needed your lies.
OOOOH when you fed me your lines.
Your ropes drug me in as your drugs wore me out.
You drove me past caring what my life was about.
You promised me answers come at the right time,
But just like a cancer, oh your words had no life.
OOOOH I needed your lies.
OOOOH when you fed me your lines.
So slick and subtle, you promise me lies.
Heartache and trouble in a pretty disguise.
Open the wrapper, on that gleaming new gift,
But the man on the cross warns "Don’t open it!"
Your words came like lovers, in a one night romance.
So lovely to utter, but goes bitter real fast.
You gave me a hope, that I would receive
But your hope was as empty, as empty as me.
