From the recording NEW CLOTHES
When recording we felt that the sentiment of the song would best be shown with minimal production. so I played the guitar part & sung the lyric. Vinny Ribas (who was indispensable to the entire project) played a simple kick drum and a quiet little piano part. When it was time to master the project, we were slotted at the mastering studio between Greenday and Neil Young. I was all ears to listen to any comments this industry pro might have to say about the album. His only comment was on the "genius of the simple production" of Losers Ballad.
Lyrics
LOSERS BALLAD
Verse 1:
I can't keep my house clean,
I can't ride a horse,
I can't win a chess game,
but I got no remorse,
'cause I can Love You!
I can Love You!
You take away my hate and sin,
and open up my heart within
to love You.
Verse 2:
I can't write a hit song,
I got no regrets.
I've honed my skills,
I got the moves
of the 68 New York Mets,
And I do love You.
I do love You!
What the Mets pulled off in 69,
you do with me so I've a mind
to love You.
Bridge:
Sometimes I'm so inept
that I surprise myself.
Folks got so many things
to say they think will help.
Laws & rules & disciplines,
to help me free my inner sins,
But I just turn to You
and I yell HELP!!! (and I get it!)
Verse 3:
I can't run the country,
I can't fill no needs.
I can't fix the ozone,
or rid my lawn of weeds,
But I can Love You!
I can love You!
Well when I die, one thing I did,
I want it wrote above my head
"I loved You"
Verse 4:
I can't fry a chicken,
I can't fix my car.
But sure as death and taxes,
I know who you are!
