(Baby Don't Hurt Me…???)
What is Love?? (Baby Don't Hurt Me…???)

Apologies to Haddaway.

Seems like every songwriter in the world takes a shot at what is the meaning of love. Here is mine.

Is it a chemical reaction? Is it one gland calling out to another? Is it based on what YOU feel at any given moment? Is it a commitment to another person come what may?

At any given moment it could be any of these, or all of them. After dating my fiancé for a couple of years I found myself walking along a river reflecting on if I really loved her. I didn't really feel any swell of emotion when bringing her to mind. The lustful desire for her body had tempered. I thought about times when I felt angry towards her. So at that moment, I was feeling rather bland about her. About to conclude that I must not really love her, a thought bubbled up into my mind.

“Do you love your mom?”

Since adolescence I had a strife filled relationship with my mom. She could be great and loving for a couple of days and then the “When are you gonna amount to something” judgements would show up.

Do I love my mom? … Well, Yeah, I think. Another question came to mind:

"How would you react if you suddenly learn she had died?"

WOW! That's harsh. I'd be devastated, heartbroken, regretful, …..

“What if the same happened to your fiancé?” Answer: The same! I do love her, even though at the moment, I “feel” nothing.

I was being taught that actual love grows beyond the feel good surface matters of attraction, lust, & compatibility. Love is actually a comittment. A choice to pursue the best for the other. It's not 50/50. It's 100/0. You determine to continue seeking the best for your love, no matter what you get back!

I found myself reading 1 Corinthians 13 in the Bible and found this passage:

“4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

Endures through every circumstance??!! That can be a challenge right there.

I want to live that passage, but am far from exhibiting it in my daily life.

We married and after a number of years that Bible Verse came into play as I strove to write her a Valentines day song. “Love is when we work all day, and still are FRIENDS AT NIGHT!”

I hope you will listen to FRIENDS AT NIGHT on your favorite platform . Then play it for someone you love.
Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/68646652022-01-10T14:32:56-06:002023-10-16T09:53:11-05:00ARE YOU GONNA FIRE YOUR BOSS?
Have you seen the news? People are quitting their jobs all over the place!

I've got a song for that!

Have you heard <a contents=""HEY BOSS, YOU'RE FIRED"" data-link-label="" data-link-type="url" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/0HipEaXdma8YcQZ2eCaiZO?si=74a2d0bcaa95468f" target="_blank">"HEY BOSS, YOU'RE FIRED" yet? Some years back I was working in a grocery store when I finally had enough of the "S*** running downhill" right at me. I walked up to the store manager and said,

"I'm sorry, You're not living up to my expectations, I'm gonna have to let you go."

And I handed him my resignation and walked out. Soon Marty Easter and I sat down to put my experience into a song. And now everybody seems to be dumping their bosses.

Anyone out there know a news broadcaster who is doing a story on this trend? Send them the song. Do you know someone who is quitting? Are you ready to move on? <a contents=""HEY BOSS, YOU'RE FIRED"" data-link-label="" data-link-type="url" href="https://open.spotify.com/track/0HipEaXdma8YcQZ2eCaiZO?si=163302092fa24495" target="_blank">"HEY BOSS, YOU'RE FIRED" is for you! Spread the word.
Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/67325732021-08-31T23:14:15-05:002021-08-31T23:14:15-05:00THE SURFARIS
In the early 1960's I had already been inspired by The Beatles. I was learning guitar and writing surfer songs. In 1963 the instrumental band THE SURFARIS came out with 'WIPE OUT" (Find it and listen on any platform).

The tune rocked my young world! The song featured drummer Ron Wilson's impressive skills. It was one of the few times in music history a song featuring drum solos made the charts.

All my friends were playing the drum part on their desks and tables, anywhere they could find a surface to bang on. Not me! I learned to play the drum solo with my right hand and a pick on my guitar! I learned Bob Berryhill's guitar licks and could play both parts solo! I had the honor of meeting Berryhill and blurted out "You taught me how to play the guitar!" I guess there is still a bit of "groupie" in me!

The Surfaris made me realize that I could play my acoustic guitar as a percussion instrument. My right hand would drive the beat while my left hand took care of the chords and notes. The result is high energy, driving, percussive approaches to my songs. "LIKE DON'T ALWAYS MEAN LOVE" is one of those songs. I hope you'll check it out.

The Surfaris were recently inducted into Musician's Hall of Fame in Nashville.

Check out "LIKE DON'T ALWAYS MEAN LOVE" on the Epiphany EP
Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/64832002020-11-22T02:29:49-06:002020-12-23T10:10:43-06:00I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY! & YOU CAN HAVE ONE TOO!
On Monday, November 30, I released my new EP EPIPHANY.

You can find all the songs in the usual places (Including CD's for us old farts who still have players.)

Here is a great place to experience the transition of my sound from Reno to Nashville. The Reno Tracks (Bla Bla Cafe', And The Life & Portola) were recorded with Max Yasgur's Farm- Danny Mikeal, Larry Yarborough, Don Carpenter and Bene' Michael. Gust artists were Dan Pike adding violas to "And The Life" and Rick Sparks playing banjo on "Portola".

The Nashville musicians came out of Azalea Studios "Brecking Crew"- Chas Williams, Dave Hoffner, Ron de la Vega, Nancy Moran, Fett and Ron Krasinski. Special guests Tim Lorsch and Mike Daly sat in on Why Are Armadillos In Nashville?

The songs are:

Hey Boss, You're Fired

Bla Bla Cafe

Portola

And The Life

Like Don't Always Mean Love

Why Are Armadillos in Nashville?

The songs each contain a truth, realization, or discovery the character in each song is experiencing. For example, the Bla Bla Cafe' presents a heterosexual man at the Bla Bla Cafe' (A real place, by the way) on the verge of realizing why the women there are unresponsive to his advances. In Portola a railroad worker is discovering an answer to his loneliness through a Bible he finds laying around.

In other songs an employee finds his empowerment and takes his life back, a sunset brings tragedy to two families, love is reluctantly dawning on a doofus and of course we learn why armadillos migrate to Nashville.

I always try to give my Widespread Crew more than is available to the general public and EPIPHANY includes some specials for them as well. The Widespread Crew can download the songs before they get released to the public. They also have a special discounted price for the CD.

I hope you will have fun with all the things I'm making available. Perhaps you too will have an EPIPHANY!
Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/64543392020-10-12T21:12:50-05:002020-11-12T23:27:41-06:00ARMADILLO INVASION
You may have noticed my home page has started featuring armadillos. I had been fascinated by armadillos for years, especially after seeing cartoons as a kid featuring Texas armadillos rolling up in a ball and rolling away. However, I had never seen a real one in person. Then I moved east from Nevada.

I drove south to Arizona, turned left on Highway 40 and drove through New Mexico. By that time I was getting excited, I was going to go through Texas and I may get to see an armadillo up close and in person. Imagine my disappointment when not one made an appearance. Well, maybe in Oklahoma? Nope. Arkansas? Are you kidding?

I Pass over the Mississippi into Tennessee and continue my trek to Nashville. After i arrive, I start noticing armadillos at the side of the road! I started asking what Armadillos are doing there? Isn't that a Texas critter?

That question led to the first song I wrote in Nashville. "Why Are Armadillos in Nashville" is going to be released November 16, 2020. But you can purchase it NOW! on the Music and Store page!

Epiphany is on the way too! November 30. The 6 song EP is already available to you right now on the Music and Store page.
Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/63501502020-06-11T14:33:57-05:002020-06-11T14:33:57-05:00My Corona
Are you sick of this Corona business? I hope none of you reading this have contracted Covid 19. If you have, Let me know, I WILL pray for you specifically.

Have any of you in your quarantine induced google search for meaning happen to come across Chris Mann<a contents=" Chris Mann's video "MY CORONA"" data-link-label="" data-link-type="url" href="https://youtu.be/ojrtwXqqc6g" target="_blank">'s video "MY CORONA"? I thought it's the best "Corona" parody songs I've seen. If you want a good laugh, check it out!

Personally, I work from home so I didn't see much difference other than all entertainment venues drying up. Yeah, That's "not much" for an entertainer! Right?

I did perform a couple of facebook live concerts from my driveway for my neighbors and all of you. (Did you catch it?) I also spent much of my time creating dumb videos about how I was dealing with my daily stuff. Those went out to my "WIDESPREAD CREW" email list. (You should sign up, it's fun!)

I did perform out once at an actual club recently. Franklin Tennessee has a fun music venue called "Kimbro's Pickin' Parlor". I was invited to come out and do a solo show a few weeks ago. They streamed it live as well. It was fun, scary (cause of all the unknowns of performing during a pandemic) and a relief to get out and actually see faces that don't live at or around my house.

For me it's easy to isolate. I'm happy to sit in front of my computer, or behind my guitar and just create all day. But even I start missing meeting other folks, getting to know what they are about and talking their ear off.

That said, I would really love it if you would let me interact with you. I want to learn about you, and I want to share my own adventures with you and from time to time, I want to give you stuff too!- after all, I create, Therefore I give!

I invite you to become part of my "WIDESPREAD CREW". Just send me your email address and respond to the confirmation email I send you and I'll be able to load you up with free songs, videos, not so free special merch. your own private web page and who knows what else?

Don't forget to check out my recent release "Portola" on your favorite music platform. Search for Doug "Songuy" Robertson - Portola

Get well, Stay Well and let's all get back to work!

Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/59323572019-10-19T15:08:47-05:002019-10-19T15:08:47-05:00Welcome to my new "WIDESPREAD CREW"!
I have finally figured out how to develop an email list.

My first thought was, "Why an email list? Isn't everybody sick of mass emails from people we don't care about?"

The answer I got was "That's exactly why you want an email list!"

I automatically dump most of my inbox directly into the trash without even looking at it. Why? Because for the most part mass emails are trying to sell me something. I don't delete my friends emails. That's because they are sharing their lives with me and vise versa. If they started pitching their wares and asking for money each time it wouldn't be long before they end up in the trash pile. I've donated to causes I believe in only to be inundated with constant multiple emails asking me to give even more money!.... Trash bin and eventually spam list.

I'm betting you do the same thing!

I don't blame anyone for their hesitation at filling out a "Join me" form.

So I was having some trepidation about creating a mass email list myself. But I learned that as long as I don't start trying to pick your pockets and actually GIVE YOU SOMETHING, there might be a reason to sign up.

So I've created my "WIDESPREAD CREW". A group of folks who want to have more interaction with me, follow my adventures and even have input on what I'm doing. I will be doing far more GIVING to you than asking for money.

What will I be giving you? Sometimes free or reduced priced stuff, but for the most part, actual access! I'll be making videos, discuss things that have my attention (I will sincerely try to avoid politics) I'll even be asking you for help from time to time to use your own unique skills in furthering my musical reach. I promise you if you email me, I will respond personally.

So, Please sign up to the email list and welcome to my "Widespread Crew"!
Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/58449912019-08-02T00:49:31-05:002020-11-12T23:25:55-06:00New Album Coming Soon!
EPIPHANY is coming along so nicely with 6 completed songs. Each song offers a sometimes hidden insight or revelation.

This has been such a fun project. Album art by famed artist Jimmy Abegg will be featured on the cover and the songs are so very different from each other. We have a Texas Swing you (Really? Me doing a Texas Swing Tune? Yep, I'm channeling Bob Wells all the way in this one!)!

The amazing musicians working on the album, Rick Sparks (Reno area Blugrasser), Dan Mikeal, Don Carpenter, & Bene' Michael (from Max Yasgur's Farm and the Voo-Doo-Dogz), Larry Yarborough (max Yasgur's Farm and The Billy Hill Band), Dan Pike (Zero Theory), Dave Hoffner (Michael Martin Murphy), Ron De la Vega (The Crickets), Chas Williams (Nancy Griffith and author of THE NASHVILLE NUMBER SYSTEM) and Ron Krasinski ( Seals & Crofts, Barry Manlow, ....).

I am self funding this album project, so I am depending on all of you to stream or download or purchase my other albums (NEW CLOTHES and SALUTE) to help me pay for the new EPIPHANY album. And, of course, Buy EPIPHANY when it comes out!
Doug Songuy Robertsontag:songuy.com,2005:Post/55264392018-11-24T16:29:33-06:002018-11-26T14:13:41-06:00Welcome all of you who went to nostrebor.net, maxband.net and songuy.com.
OMG! The website is out with a fresh, new look! Please look around and tell me what you think.

As many of you know I am visually illiterate so I can't take any credit for the style and look of these pages. You have my son Joel and my wife Martha to credit for that! My new Logo was designed by Martha Robertson and the talented Nancy Terzian of Buckinghorse Design.

About that logo! Do you like it? The guitar came from a classroom activity Martha was leading with some students. The assignment was to create an old fashioned ink stamp. You know, where you press the image to an ink pad and transfer it to paper. Martha decided to make a guitar stamp out of cardboard.

The guitar image you see in my new logo is the impression from that stamp! Cool Huh? Once we had that, we turned it over to Nancy Terzian to create a signature and put the elements together. I'm loving it!

Notice I have a featured video! Please check it out. This one is my song "Losers Ballad" from the NEW CLOTHES album. Here's a little background on it; When recording we felt that the sentiment of the song would best be shown with minimal production. so I played the guitar part & sung the lyric. Vinny Ribas (who was indispensable to the entire project) played a simple kick drum and a quiet little piano part. When it was time to master the project, we were slotted at the mastering studio between Greenday and Neil Young. I was all ears to listen to any comments this industry pro might have to say about the album. His only comment was on the "genius of the simple production" of Losers Ballad.

For such a short song, it has some great stories attached to it. Remind me sometime and I'll share one of them.

I am going to have some fun with you on this site. For those who join my mailing list I'll have some exclusive content, giveaways, and other fun things as they occur to me! I want your help though. I want to be interactive with you. So please checkout my social media links or send me an email through the contact page.

I want to come perform in your area, but I will need your help to make the arrangements.

Love to you all!
